Youth Programs

Youth Lock In

All 6th-12th graders are invited to Be the Key at our Diocesan Lock-In, April 5- 6, at St. John’s Cathedral. We live in a world that has many “locked doors” that separate people from their community. At its most basic, it’s bullying and can lead to isolation and despair. Unfortunately, locking others out doesn’t always end with mere bullying. As Christians, we are called to be the key that works to help unlock those doors. Fashioned after Christ, our master key, the "key qualities" of love, forgiveness, kindness, and openness, can help us bring people together. After light formation, we will build up our own community through laughter, games, movies, and, of course, food! Join us for a fun-filled day and night as we play together and discover what kind of keys we are. Registration is $50.00. Registration closes March 15 and is capped at 50 youth. Join us for the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake supper on Tuesday, March 4. Drop by anytime between 5 and 7 p.m. for delicious pancakes (gluten free will also be available) and fun fellowship for all ages. Historically, Shrove Tuesday was the last time to eat fat, butter, and eggs – the ingredients used in pancakes that many people decided to fast from during Lent. In French, it’s called Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday! The cost is $10 per person/$30 family maximum. To pay online, click here and choose “pancake supper” in the drop down menu.

Nursery will be available for ages 0-3. To pay online, click here and choose “Lenten supper” in the drop down menu.

Giving Boxes for Heifer International

During Lent, children and youth are encouraged to pick up a collection box and to put money in it for Heifer International. They will return the boxes on Easter.

Heifer International partners with smallholder farmers – especially women farmers – to improve their families’ food security and increase their incomes. They offer tools, training and resources that help farmers work together to build profitable, sustainable businesses with strong market linkages. To learn more, click here.

Confirmation

Ascension offers a confirmation program for teenagers, age 15 and up, every other year. Over the last three years, Ascension has formed two of the largest confirmation classes in the Diocese of Colorado, with nine students in 2018 and 12 in 2016. In 2016 to mark the end of their confirmation experience, the teens walked the last 65 miles of the Camino de Santiago in Spain. Please contact Sarah Dougherty for more information about this program.
